Feminist Piece: Empowering Women
Frankenstein: It's a feminist work;
-written by a woman
-addresses stereotypes of women, how frankenstein had killed women, women were victims (not sure if I heard this part correctly)
-women looking at men as mindless, zombie beasts. looking down on men. overpowering men. man as monster.
-he had no identity
-while it was written, women were limited on what they could do and achieve. at other parts of the world, women probably couldn't read or weren't allowed to.
-frank's monster as a metaphor for women
-when frank was born, he went to the forest to learn (woods) she called the woods a female, gave power to the woods.
-Mary Shelly married to Mr.Shelly. Mr.Shelly's a famous poet, encourages wife to write b/c of her talent and understanding of literature. she refused the call at first but then wrote frankenstein. rare for a husband to encourage a wife to come out as public writer.
The Color Purple
-portrays men in a very negative light
-demonizing african american males
