Its close,

It’s very close.

It’s almost time to get out of here.

It’s close to time to relax,

Its close I know I can feel it.

Quiz 11/11

  1. In the beginning of the book it goes into graphic detail of how Celie’s father had raped her and in the movie it just straight into Celie having the child. I think this is because it was too graphic for some people and the director didn’t want that graphic of a scene in his movie. Another event that is different is that Celie’s husband does not clean up his act after Celie leaves him in the movie and he does in the book. I think this is done because we as a society think that a person is a wreck after their husband/wife leaves them.
  2. The color purple is significant in the book because it is a bright color and it is shown in the scenes where it is a happy moment, like the flowers in the field where Celie and Nettie play and Nettie is wearing it when she gets back from Affrica.
  3. Shug is the archetype orphan in my mind because she was lost and her father was a minister and they didn’t see each other for a long time and at the end when she sees him she is no longer an orphan.
  4. I am like Celie in the aspect of being a very quiet person. I usually don’t stand up for myself when I should, it has never been to the point of what Celie went through though. For me it usually is just my friends messing around with me not being physically beat or becoming someone’s slave like Celie was for her husband.

For my final project I will write a paper. The paper will be about my life and, how the things we learned in class relate to my life. I will tell different stories about things that have happened in my life and show the stages of the monomyth and the archetypes that I was showing at that point in time.

The best of both worlds,

It is how I am at home in two places.

I am at home in two places,

One completely different from the other.

The master of two worlds is the stage of the monomyth that is right after the return home. It is when the hero realizes that they can live in both worlds, the world that they were in while on their journey and the world at home. Then they will travel back and forth between the two worlds.

The time in my life when I experienced the master of two worlds is when I went home for winter break last year. This is because I got a good hold on how to live at school and be on my own and then I was able to go home without many problems transitioning to the at home life. At home I am under more rules than when I am at school. My parents want to know where I am, who I’m with, and when I will be home.

In the poem “The Best of Both Worlds” by Judy Burnette it talks about having the best of both worlds. It says that she doesn’t think that a person can have both of best of worlds. This is proven by the first stanza of the poem. It talks about how she was told that it would be the best of both worlds but it isn’t and she feels really bad because she wants it to be that way. This poem talks about the exact opposite of what this stage is but, I believe that this is poet is talking about a different stage. I think that this poet believes it’s the best of both worlds stage but, her journey is not at this stage yet. That is it is not there yet but will get to that stage in its own time.

Crossing the return threshold is when the hero crosses the threshold he did at the beginning of his journey on their way home. They may have to fight a gatekeeper again. This can be the step where they are almost home and do not really know if they should go home or stay in the “new world.”

This has happened to me this year. I had just called my mom to see if she could pick me up after my Monday classes for a day and she had said yes. I was really doubting if I should go home or not and, I didn’t know what to do. All I did know is that I needed to get away from everything for a little bit to be able to get focuses again. I consider this crossing the return threshold because I wasn’t sure if I should go home or not and I already had the ride home.

In the poem Returning Home  by Anniemoh Ohio it talks about the crossing the return threshold. It does this by talking about a woman who returns home with many things going on that say to me that the return threshold is when her siblings give her some shit for returning home. It says “Siblings hug yet barley touch surfacing streams of resentment…” This is saying that there is a little battle going on between the siblings or, the gatekeeper. I think that this woman won’t be fully home until she battles her siblings with their emotions.
